A Managed Security Service Provider is an Internet service provider that provides an organization with some amount of network security management like virus blocking, spam blocking, intrusion detection, firewalls and virtual private network management. Apart from this, we also have the Defense Security Service (DSS) which is a Department of Defense agency. The Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence has the complete authority, direction and control over DSS and has its field offices throughout the United States. Security Education, Training and Awareness Program
A Security Education, Training and Awareness Program called SETA is implemented by DSS which provide security education and training to security professionals and develops security awareness products for their use. Through regular classrooms, computer-based training, correspondence/distance learning and tele-training, the Program provides a curriculum focusing on the core security disciplines while integrating counterintelligence and network or information systems security.

Mission critical areas for DSS are implementing the National Industrial Security Program (NISP) and the Collaborative Adjudication Services (CAS) under which the Counterintelligence (CI) Office, the Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO) and the Clearance Liaison Office (CLO) operate.

DISCO which is located in Columbus-Ohio, processes requests for industrial personnel security investigations and provides eligibility or clearance notifications for industry personnel which comes under NISP. There are approximately about 800,000 cleared contractor personnel under the NISP program.

The CI office provides logistics support to DSS programs; bringing in CI experience and expertise to its workforce and assisting customers in recognizing and reporting suspected foreign intelligence collection activities.

The CLO provides coordination and support to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in the conduct of personnel security investigations for Department of Defense.
